Colton Tooling Ltd.

Hydraulic moulding cutterheads

Specification

Hydraulically self-centring tools. These tools are manufactured from high tensile steel, fitted with hardened wedges for durability, and are designed to accept 8 and 10mm serrated back cutters as standard. Tools are also available for 4, 5 and 6mm serrated knives.

Application

For use on mechanically fed planing and moulding machines, for higher production rates.

Cutterheads are manufactured with hubbed ends (Weinig style) or with flush ends. Grease access is normally through the diameter of the tool, however, grease access from the ends is also available as an option.

The above is a list of our more popular range of products designed around the Weinig standard size range. We would be pleased to receive your enquiries for any specific requirements you may have for items not listed.

Upgrades for older machinery

We also manufacture hydraulic tools, both planing and moulding, in a range of imperial sizes to suit customers that wish to upgrade their old square/coned bore cutterheads used on machines such as the old Wadkin and Robinson ranges.

Using hydraulic tools on this kind of machinery is one method of overcoming the problem of un-threaded spindles which rely upon coned sleeves to clamp the tools. Hydraulic tools are far more accurate than coned and sleeved tools.

The hydraulics of our tools have been designed to span spindle keyways without deformation of the tool bore, not all systems are capable of this and require new spindles to be made.
